Outdoor living is prime here on the Grand Strand, and we also do not lacking beautiful outdoor parks and green spaces in the area for the family to play the day away right outside their backyards.

Here are my top 5 faves (not necessarily in any certain order) for you to discover and fall in love with in the Myrtle Beach area:

Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park, 4401 South Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach and 16148 Ocean Highway, Murrells Inlet

Directions: Huntington Beach State Park 16148 Ocean Highway, Murrells Inlet

Directions: Myrtle Beach State Park 4401 South Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach

The two state parks sprawling along the coastline in the Myrtle Beach area are both a must-see in the great outdoors. Myrtle Beach State Park, the oldest state park in South Carolina, and its 300-plus acres is laid out with several hiking trails, paved roadways for biking, picnic pavilions, a nature center, playgrounds, a beachfront for swimming and sunbathing, and a fishing pier that extends out to the ocean behind a souvenir and ice cream shop. Huntington Beach State Park is a haven for birdwatchers armed with high-powered cameras who line up along the causeway to catch a pic of any rare water bird species, turtles, or an occasional alligator that surfaces. Huntington also boasts hiking trails, the paved Waccamaw Neck Bikeway, a nature center, a beachfront for swimming and sunbathing, a playground, picnic pavilions, and Atalaya, the Moorish-style castle that dates back to the 1930s, when it served as home of the Huntingtons, who once owned the land.
